My mom has always been very fast learning. I can't remember the last time she has needed help with her laptop. She even took come classes so she know some things better than the men in the family.

My father used to disconnect my network wire from the router if I was playing or chatting too much. He needed me to cut the grass or something. I moved out as soon as I could though.

Ok so our kids will probably laugh at us too when we are older, but I think most of us (at least the people geek enough to play subspace) will be able to use the technology we'll live to see.

I've never told him that the monitor on/off button does not turn off the whole computer...I'll let him have his fun :P

I kind of agree with both Stab and Suz in the sense that technology will advance tremendously in our lifetime, but as long as we still retain our interest in technology when we get older, we won't turn into those tech-idiots that we're describing in this thread.

My pops is a total idiot when it comes to computers, but if he just set aside some time to learn about them, he would have no problem with it. His problem (and I'm guessing the problem with most people who are tech-idiots) is that in the 1980's and 1990's he only paid attention to stuff like his personal life and his career. He had no interest in keeping up with the advancement of technology. Now, he has to relearn every advancement in the last 20 years (which includes computer semantics) and I think he feels like he's learning to speak a foreign language and studying the history of an alien culture.

I think with most of us here in TW, we like computers and technology. It facinates many of us, so I have little doubt that with that kind of interest, we're going to be motivated to keep up with it over the next several decades.

Another thing, technology is a two-way street. It exists to make our lives easier, and as a capitalist vehicle. The designers want to create a product that is user friendly, because they stand to be more successful in selling more of them.

Basic technology will always have an interest in us, so as long as we maintain an interest in basic technology, I don't think it will pass us by.
