Anyways:

Anyone who's read the original TMNT comic books knows that they were not aimed at children.

I think the problem here is that we are loosely applying labels to various genres without any thought to what the words actually mean. For example, one side is criticising Neodis for classifying cartoons and anime as two different things (and rightly so) and yet they are also wrongly lumping anime together with Hentai. Anime can be directed towards adults and children. And when I say to adults, I don't necessarily mean hentai. I wouldn't consider Ninja Scroll to be a movie directed towards children, and yet I wouldn't say it is hentai either. And western cartoons can be for adults and children as well. Though it is partially animated, partially live-action, I consider Cool World to be an animated cartoon movie, though I wouldn't say it is appropriate for children either.

the definition of Anime (Courtesy of Dictionary.com) is A style of animation developed in Japan, characterized by stylized colorful art, futuristic settings, violence, and sex. Dictionary.com does not seem to have it right. Of course you can't call it "non-opinionated," it was developed from a western stand-point. For the record, stating that a cartoon is an animation is redundant.

Just to point a few things out, Anime is not restricted to Japanese origin. Is not limited to futuristic settings, or violence or sex.

The definition of Animation is to bring into motion that which is stationary. I have lost much of my respect for dictionary.com.

Seriously though I'm not wrong in the context that I choose to use the terms "Cartoon" and "Anime." The problem arises when someone wants to misinterpret my context. As I have been accused of being childish, I have been trying to use big words to explain exactly just what I mean when I say Anime vs Cartoon.

Your analysis of "cartoons" for example is just as blind and misinformed as how you say the others are describing Anime. For example, you criticized cartoons as being influenced by popularity and profit alone, and to that, I will simply say: Pokemon.

Ever heard of multiple definitions for a single word? We'd be pretty fucked as a culture if the word "read" was interpreted in one meaning only.

I didn't really mean to lump these two together (because they're obviously different sub-genres), but they're still cartoons nonetheless. Cartoons sexually interacting with other cartoons doesn't make them anything other than... you guessed it, cartoons. I think you agree on this point, I just wanted to clear up my stance.

Thanks, I was going to do that whole "this means this by ways of a transitive property" thing, but just didn't have the time. I agree. I'm not hating on cartoons. Any of my friends will tell you I enjoy them as a whole. I just don't get how people really get off on cartoons fucking each other.

BTW the major difference between Cartoons/Animes:

Male characters:
In cartoons: generally do NOT have muscles
In Animes: usually do.

But since I have stopped watching cartoons/animes since I was 17, I might get it wrong
