Make more shit legal and let assholes go? You make it sound like these people are innocent and havent done shit wrong. On a whim we just decide to label people as criminals and throw them in prison.
I notice that as the only qualified person to post, you have noted the bad health effects of the drug compared to others. You share the same stance as me as far as whatever someones doing in their own house is their business, unless its putting others in danger. Perhaps other people here should listen to some actual facts and not a cnn article every so often
I said it's a bad thing that there are so many people in prison, and that further efforts should be made at crime prevention like education and rehabilitation. You know, lessen the reasons for people to commit crimes in the first place, and also to help those to did commit crimes in the past to not reoffend because having 1% of your population in jail at any time is a pretty bad thing for society.
So yes, I actually proposed more rehabilitation programs and more education programs for prevention. As well, since we both agree that:

By playing Continuum in the first place, you're already supporting a criminal act (that of recreating a trademarked property, Subspace owned by a corporation) but we all know that it's pretty inconsequential. By your definition you are basically a criminal already, just as those who might have been caught with one joint might be seen as a criminal. But is it really in society's best interests to go after gamers like us, and people who smoke a joint every so often?
I don't see how that is idiotic at all. Perhaps you need some further training in basic reading comprehension and critical thinking.Last edited by Epinephrine; 03-02-2008, 03:19 PM.Epinephrine's History of Trench Wars:

This point is a grey area to me, because the whole justice system stands for making up for what you have done wrong. Being in jail is making up for your mistake, so people should accept that after the convicted has served his time, he should not be treated differently.
Still, I don't think it's rationally possible for people to do so. I just can't believe that I will ever be able to commit certain crimes, and so it might be hard for me to accept someone who did commit them.
That said, I have a few friends that could be considered as 'criminals', but I don't judge them for that -just like you can pick sides for the Corleone family in the Godfather films- I can relate to them on another level.
So at this point -only- my argument didn't go anywhere, I agree, but that's the more reason for me to discuss it. I think I would still hire a convicted person if he's the best man for the job.
The part that you are confused about is what I said about a macro level. When you have over 1% of your population in jail, you can be sure that a decent amount of your workforce has been convicted in their life. As a country -looking at the big picture- you can't keep them out of your economy. They will all be back in jail in no-time, and that's not a solution. I am sure that a lot of these people would be very well capable of holding a decent job if given the chance, and that's better than having to guard them every single day for the rest of their lives. And executing convicts is not really a sane solution. You ate some priest porridge

I dont see anyone else that posts here thats really pro death penalty, for instance, but I think seeing as how its a topic of discussion in america there are obviously plenty of people like me out there. Just not on these forums, so call me a troll all you want and even ban me for it I guess, but the only thing I'm doing is voicing my opinion which usually just isnt the same as yours.
Originally posted by Izor View PostAs far as my post in trice's thread, I have my own reasons not to feel sympathy until I know what happened to someone. Mostly these reasons are because I know people who died fighting in support of others' freedom. Compare this to say...Heath Ledger's death. I mean personally when you're sitting by the radio room and youre listening for an hour about a convoy that broke down and was surrounded by high ground, then eventually got hit by an ambush and someone died...then you hear on the news about some millionaire actor that overdosed and fucking killed himself and everyone feels sorry for him its bullshit. Plain and simple. I dont really care if you agree with that and Im not implying thats what happened, but I dont jump to conclusions on things like that for a reason.
Okay, If we would start to care about all the things that are bad in this world, our hearts would explode the same second.
You don't have to respond to this last paragraph, I don't want to switch this discussion to your lost war on terrorism yet again. I am just saying that we really do care more about Heath Ledger than your soldiers.. he received a little more disgust than them. You ate some priest porridge

don't worry he doesn'tMy father in law was telling me over Thanksgiving about this amazing bartender at some bar he frequented who could shake a martini and fill it to the rim with no leftovers and he thought it was the coolest thing he'd ever seen. I then proceeded to his home bar and made four martinis in one shaker with unfamiliar glassware and a non standard shaker and did the same thing. From that moment forward I knew he had no compunction about my cock ever being in his daughter's mouth.

I think you believe im saying that we should put more convicts to death that I am. All I'm saying is that people who have more than one life sentence, or a life sentence with no chance for parole dont have a chance of doing their time and going back into society. What is the purpose of them being alive and sucking up tax dollars? They didnt do some little shit to get a life sentence, so why would anyone care?I'm just a middle-aged, middle-eastern camel herdin' man
I got a 2 bedroom cave here in North Afghanistan

Originally posted by Cops View PostTwo words, Stop Loss. Not everyone fighting in this war believes in it, nor do they want to be apart of it. My heart goes out to the soldiers who signed up for something completly different than what they got themselves into. It's pretty shitty to say we care more about some movie star who overdosed on prescription drugs rather than people dying in other countries for bullshit reasons.
What's the difference between that actor and those soldiers? They both made a decision they know could kill them, I only feel sorry for the innocent people that die. But a soldiers duty is to kill and die for their country, so why do I need to care about them when they had their moment of glory?
Why this discussion again, I already made it very clear many times how I feel about soldiers, and basically you do the same. You feel sorry for the situation they are in. At least I don't pretend that they didn't make that decision. They decided they would give up their free will and values for the bonus they receive. They should have known they would be send out at some point, and even then they could have refused to go. Deserting isn't the worst reason to be in prison.
Everybody knows this, that's why normal soldiers, especially wounded, are forgotten and hidden after a war. You can look this up in history, nobody really gives a shit about them when the smoke clears. I just don't feel like being a hypocrite and pretend to them that I do support them now. It's called honesty, and it might suit you too.You ate some priest porridge
