No it isn't. And I don't think the MPAA would have changed the rating if it was a little girl instead of a little boy, Kolar. The fact it was a child should make more of a difference than the gender, and even then it didn't push the rating beyond PG-13. I think the amount of blood is a bigger factor in determining the films ratings.

Plus, I think violence doesn't boost the ratings higher as much as sex does.

EDIT: It's also way too early to even consider Hush as a movie villain. The character is too new; only modern comic readers will know who he is.

      • Haha wait up it's PG-13? Really? Just goes to show how insane and ethically bankrupt the MPAA rating system is. If there's been a mainstream Hollywood movie that deserved an R rating in the last 10 years it's probably this one. My god, Analyze That got a fucking R rating and I don't think anyone over 12 enjoyed that movie.

            • A lot of it was inappropriate for like 10 year olds. There were a couple of them younger then that when I went to see it but I couldn't find anything that might appeal to them in this compared to the Batman and Robin/Batman Forever garbage. I think you're right TK it's not about gender. Nolan had built up since Batman Begins that he is close to his son and Two Face was looking to do as much damage as possible.

There's no blood, no sex and very little swearing (no f-bombs). Most of the violence is implied.

The violence is intense but not graphic so the MPAA can justify giving a PG-13 rating. But yeah, I wouldn't take a kid to see it.

ppl need to have some more faith in their kids

I watched jurassic park when I was little and it barely phased me when ppl were being torn in half by a trex.

my mom works in a preschool and shes telling me that parents are so worried that their kids will be traumatized by whatever they see, fucking they are starting to take away the childhood shit that we watched when we were kids.

Fuck they are taking out snow white and the seven dwarfs because it implied that one woman was getting gangbanged by a bunch of midgets

fucking ridiculous if you ask me, I'd take my kid to see this movie irregardless of the violence (it's everywhere in the world, why try to sugarcoat it)

First of all you can't exactly be clear of how violence has affected you. It's so pervasive in American culture that it's almost inescapable. Our country has a ridiculous murder rate and though it may not have caused you to be violent, it has underlined social problems.

Secondly, Snow White is not the Dark Knight. There is a big difference and you're smart enough to know that. Parents should be as well.

Third of all, Violence may be everywhere and it's true that you don't want to "sugarcoat" mortality and such, but I personally would not want to bring a young child into that terrifying of an experience. TDK is likened to Cloverfield for me in the sense that both are more Universal Studios ride than cinematic experience. Seeing scenes of the joker cutting a man's mouth open is not something you should have to explain to a child.

IMO there are concepts that are a bit over a child's head. I watched movies full of nudity, sex, and violence as a kid too but I don't think every kid should be subjected to them. It's a parent by parent thing (IE you would have no qualms taking a child, I would). Part of it depends on the maturity level of the child as well.

                    • batman was something I grew up with, I understood at a young age that the Joker character was fucking demented and a crazy fellow.

Want an explanation to tell your kids?

                      He's a bad guy.

Distinguish good between evil, and tell them the consequences, and yatta yatta yatta, there you go.

It's not that hard nowadays to fucking tell your kids whats up, I wish people would stop worrying so much how it's going to affect their future and just fucking explained shit out.

Because the problem isn't the violence, the problem is that parents choose not to educate their children or they are fucking retarded and end doing something that makes the kid accept this sort of thing as acceptable.

                      And another thing

Whatever happened to "Cover your eyes" (or put the hand in front of their faces)? Have we became that lazy to tell them to avert something that is obviously not acceptable for kids.

Yes I understand some shit happens so quick that you can't do that, but I know for sure when something seemed like it was about to go down (I.E. sex, horrific murder/torture) my mom/dad put a hand in front of my eyes.

Hell, kid's attention span probably won't be paying attention to everything in the movie. How many times did all of you had to go back and watch a movie you saw as a kid and then finally understand the dialog and other shit what it meant.

Ah, yes... if only we could go back to the good ol' days when the only time you saw violence was when your mom and pop took you to the coliseum or you saw a nude woman impaled at the city gates.

Stayon> That type of thing, when you're married for 50 years but you know you fucked up when you dropped chilli sause on your elitist rich boss, while crossing the cafeteria's lunch zone, getting you fired, because you were distracted admiring the cleaning lady's ass that you beated off to, when your sluggish wife and two retarted kids were asleep.

the point still stands that American media has a long past of showing violence. It's represented in everything from Looney Tunes to Saving Private Ryan and all in between.

so why wouldn't you take your kid to see batman only using violence against bad guys, and not even willing to kill them because it goes against his moral code?

Besides some anti-establishment and death to batman quotes, you don't really see the joker slicing open the person's mouth, nor do you see the pencil go into the guys eye during the magic trick. It's all implied.

It's still violence. It's still somewhat glorified. It still makes the joker look cool while he fires rockets into cars and shoots at Batman with a machine gun.

What do you want me to say? Parents should educate their kids on the differences between real and cinematic violence, I agree. That being said, if I had children I wouldn't let them play Grand Theft Auto or bring them into TDK unless I felt that they were mature enough to understand that difference.

I wouldn't stop any parent that felt their kid was "ready" to see it, but there are numerous studies out there linking violence in the media to personal acceptance. Your kid may not emulate it, but mine might. It's a personal choice and I wouldn't take an 8-year-old to see it.

edit: I'm just taking your cover the eyes thing a step further. I don't expect to shelter kids forever but that doesn't mean you have to subject them to violence either.
