    • I know that it is very soon for this, but who would make a good choice of villain for the next movie?

I was thinking the Riddler and Catwoman. My friend was telling me that the Mr. Reese fellow in TDK [spoilers]you know, the guy who was attempting to blackmail Bruce Wayne by telling everyone that he's Batman[/spoilers] would be the Riddler because he was the only person to figure out Batman's identity and when you pronounce his name, you can get the word 'mysteries'. I don't know how that made any sense but it made so much sense to me because I'm just a fanboy who eats all that shit up.

The riddler's name is Edward Nigma. Seeing as how they've stuck to the names Bruce Wayne, Harvey Dent, Alfred, Lucius Fox, etc. I don't think they are changing.

He's the Riddler. He likes to confuse people. Think about it.

            • I don't think that's going to happen. Christopher Nolan's been pretty good with sticking to the comics, for the most part, and this would be straying too far off of that path. Frankly, the Riddler isn't compelling enough of a character to carry the next film as its main villain, not after Ra's Al Ghul, Scarecrow and the Joker (the actor himself is also nowhere near as big a name as Liam Neeson or Heath Ledger, or even Cillian Murphy and Ken Watanabe for that matter). Plus, the Riddler character works best when he's great with riddles but can't seem to figure out the biggest one, Batman's identity. The Reese character (first name, Coleman) not only already knows that, he also kind of owes Batman one. There's not enough there, and if he were to be the Riddler in the third film, it'll be as a minor villain, perhaps one that Batman nabs at the beginning of the film just like what happens in the beginning of the Dark Knight.

No, if you want to predict the next villain(s) you'll have to consider Batman's status at the end of the film and line that he has to tip-toe. Catwoman would be good because she's morally ambiguous as well, but in a different way from Batman. Because of that, though, she can't be the main villain.

The Penguin is probably the next most known villain, but again, I don't see him as the lead villain. I liked Danny DeVito's portrayal of him, and that's the way Nolan would have to create him to fit into his vision of Gotham to be the main bad guy, but I don't see him wanting to try to duplicate that.

Mr Freeze is another villain with enough name recognition, but after Arnold played the part, I think Nolan would want to stay away from him. Plus, Nolan doesn't seem to use special effects too heavily and Mr Freeze would require quite a bit more than what was used for Two-Face.

I would predict that Two-Face returns in a smaller capacity and Catwoman would be a supporting character as an antihero. The main villains? Talia Ghul trying to resurrect her father with another villain as the muscle like a Killer Croc or a Bane.

One villain I'd like to see Nolan take a whack at is the Ventriloquist. Yes, he's a little guy with a talking dummy, and he sounds kind of goofy, but I think he's the kind of character Nolan could really twist around and make menacing and creepy. Plus, he has a gangster-ish kind of feel to him that fits into a Gotham where the the mob should return to full force now that their charges should be overturned after what happened to Dent.

              • The ventriloquist would be cool, and I can see Bane as a supporting villain. I'd like to see a portrayal of Clayface or a Poison Ivy that doesn't suck horribly. I could also see Nolan expounding upon the already established Scarecrow or introducing the Mad Hatter.

                • well all of the bad guys are still alive, joker, scarecrow, heck if i remember right eckhart had signed a 2 movie contract, so his character can be back next film. It could be a big deal having a trifecta of bad guys vs batman. Also who knows maybe robin will come and die in that one.

                      • I'm not sure who they can find that's willing or able to step into Heath Ledger's shadow, but it's far too early for them to even think about it. The third film is still far down the road, and even then it's not likely to even have the Joker in it.

As great as I think The Dark Knight was I'm left with a feeling that they might be screwed doing the next movie, the real issue as you've said is who is and could possibly play a villain and still create a performance something similar to the last two movies, specifically the last movie.
it makes me sick when i think of it, all my heroes could not live with it so i hope you rest in peace cause with us you never did
