People might not get turned away directly from the doors of the ER, but anyone with anything even remotely serious that requires being admitted or referred to a specialist are turned away unless they have insurance or cash upfront. So if you have anything remotely serious, sure you can just sit in the ER and not really get the treatment you ultimately need, which is not going to do anything for your health.

I don't hate America (or anything really), but our lack of health care for everyone as well as rising rates IS a problem and it's getting worse.
