Where would you go if Zombies attacked?

An open field is stupid, even if you had night vision goggles, eventually someone would slip up. If having a stupid person in a wal-mart is a risk then having a lazy ass person on watch is an even bigger risk. Besides, what are you going to do when the zombie deer, squirrel, and birds come after you.

Fair enough, but do know that Walmart doesn't even carry Fish anymore, so you are completely safe from that!

as is the case with any mine field, you leave a path unbeknownst to your enemies that you can move through in case you need to escape. open fields are usually pretty far from people so swarming would at least take a while to occur so i could buy time to come up with a better plan or establish better defenses. as for having my guard down, i would assume i would have my gf and a few close friends with me and we would take shifts. and lastly sight is not an issue with zombies....they are dead and thus the optics do not work as far as i have ever seen...hence why the eyes are always glazed over.

well wark what are your ideas? a walmart and a castle with a moat, what are those but simply a fortress in the middle of an open field? one being a parking lot and the other being located in the middle ages.

maybe a shack in the middle of an open field...maybe some tripwires at the edge of the field to set off an alarm as an extra precautionary measure. also if zombies go on smell then maybe burn a forest down around you, get so much smoke in the air that it will mask your smell.....that or a lot of vicks amirite?

how is it undefendable, what do you need cover for against zombies, its not like they gunna shoot at you, you need distance, visibility, and things to prevent them from getting close to you (i.e. a roof, guns, mines, a wide open field)

in the end, any position is undefendable: there are an infininte number of zombies, and they don't stop. like energizer bunnies with a thirst for spinal fluid.

i still say your best bet is on a boat-

If you read that Dank, you'd know that water is a bad place to hide from zombies.

1) you're isolated with no food and clean water
2) zombies dont have to breath...they're dead, so they wont drown
3) If you fall in, or if a zombie is able to reach up and overturn your boat then you're dead.

I'm finding a grain solo and grabbing a sniper rifle.

1) there's plenty of food in the ocean, it's called fishing. that and you could do like in waterworld and keep a measly little tomato plant around that somehow magically fertilizes itself. And as for fresh water, you'd have that problem anywhere. Basically, you'd have to bring as much with you as possible- there isn't going to be a source that's not contaminated with zombie virus or idiot survivors. You might be able to bring some device that purifies water, but that will eventually break too. Best bet may be to move to a very large lake instead of the ocean, then you could boil and drink the water.

2)they won't drown, but they won't be able to swim either. as long as you're not in like 6ft of water you'd be fine. there are plenty of lakes that are hundreds, if not thousands of feet deep. Then there's the ocean again.

3)once again, you'd have to be in very shallow water, or there'd have to be zombie somali pirates after you.

Given a large building, zombies would eventually be able to pile up and get on top (like in tremors 2) but it would take awhile. In the ocean, or a large lake, it would be near impossible for them to creat a pile large enough to get to you, and you'd be mobile.

Mobility is key, and if you're in a large enough sailboat w/motor back up, along with a rowboat to embark on scavanger missions, you'd be set for life.

Hell, with enough time you could even get a group to hijack like a cruise ship, and keep that baby loaded up with goodies. You'd probably need an oil tanker too, just to keep with the waterworld idea.

The only thing you'd have to worry about is zombie sea gulls. Lord knows they're crazy enough as it is, if they've got zombie brains we'd be fucked, like The Birds times a thousand. Oh and i guess zombie flying fish or zombie sharks if you fell out. Zombie sperm whale might be kinda imposing too.


The main problem i have with the Wal*Mart idea (and btw, not dissing it, i would have said it too if not for everyone else saying it). Is that it's only a short term defensible position. Even if zombies never breach your defenses, you have literally no way of disposing of human waste, or getting fresh water/food beyond what's already in the store. The stench and bacteria would be intolerable, and you'd have no way to flush it down the drain once the fresh water turned off (ie your water towers finally drain). Plus, without longterm electricity (at best you could go a couple years on generators with spare gas) you'd be in teh dark as well as without all the conviences you described. The ventilation systems would die as well, leaving you to asphixiate on toxic poo gases and carbon monoxide. :sick:

If you have enough time, the best bet would be to go to somewhere like ascension island or another large enough, isolated enough island. If you have your ship, you can always check it out and run like hell if it's infected

Hidden paths through minefields are a bad idea at the best of times when you need to make a quick exit, and a deathtrap at the worst of times when you have zombies running all over the place and your friends freaking out around you

Which zombies do you know haven't relied on sight to go after survivors? 28 Days/Weeks later, left 4 dead, resident evil, dawn of the dead, etc etc all used sight and sound (sometimes smell) to hunt down living humans.

In a post apocalyptic situation I highly doubt alot of people are going to want to sit in an open field if there are zombies wandering about.

what are you going to do if it's your turn on watch and you see 500 zombies coming over the horizon at you? Run in the opposite direction? Why didn't you just run in the first place instead of waiting in the field for them to see you? There are going to be bloodthirsty packs of zombies roaming the earth looking for human flesh to devour, they aren't just going to avoid fields or shy away if there are a couple of mines

Well thats Simple, I just happen to live not more than 20 miles away from a wal-mart that is built along a natural river, so We just dig through the floor of the wal-mart until we hit the underground water system, and we use that as our toilet.

Isn't being under siege a hell of a lot better than being in the middle of nowhere with no shelter and no supplies? You're relying only on your ability to stay alert and fight them off. What happens at night? Or if it starts raining? What if it's still winter and it's freezing cold?

How is a defensive position worse then having no defensive position at all? You'd at least have been better off if you said you'd go to the top of a hill than an open field. At least then you'd have terrain on your side.

If you stay in the middle of a field and let the zombies come to you, you're still under siege, except you don't have walls, shelter, food, water or supplies. Yeah, that's much better.

I still think grocery stores are a bad idea because there's no way the loading dock is secure. Plus there are way too many exit doors all around the perimeter of the building... it would be too hard to watch them all.

ideally, all people would hole up in all the walmarts across america. there'd be less intelligent people holed up in the super kmarts and target stores too.

we'd build a system of tunnels (dont' ask me how, we'd use the trenchdiggers and pruning shears in the garden sections) to connect ourselves. We could probably even seal off a few sewers, that is if they aren't completely invested with zombies, zombie rats, and zombie alligators at that point.



I still think it would make a great, topical, zombie movie. I know it's kinda been done with dawn of the dead, but a lot of people jump straigt to walmart, and i think that's a pretty standard theme. I also haven't seen the mist, and from what yall have described here it kinda sounds like it too.

It could be a really cool independent film.

1 word: mobility

with no walls you are not trapped on the inside, plus open areas don't tend to be in urban areas and thus the chances and frequency of mobs of zombies strollin on by is far far less

on a side note, started this dicussion with friends and we r speculating where you would hole up in downtown seattle...got some interesting opinions.
