I was thinking about this a few days ago. ?go base teaches people to spider the whole wrong way. It's all about ratio and kills. Nobody cares about the flag, much less their team. As long as they get that 2:1, they couldn't give two shits.

I agree with you somewhat, but I think we may disagree on what exactly causes this bad spiding to be encouraged. I don't think that .?go base encourages ratioing and kills instead of getting flag and team play.

I think the abundence of players you don't know, don't care about, or flat out don't respect is the real cause. When I play, I don't give a shit about the team. I play strictly for myself. Not because I've been developing that habit by playing .?go base, nor because I think that that is the most important part of the game.

It is actually because I don't think most teams that I am on are worth my effort. I'm not going to try and help out a team that I feel is retarded.

Therefore, I perpetuate the problem. Unfortunately, like I already said, I don't give enough of a shit about these players to set an example and contribute to the progress of basing.

You people blame so much on the newer players. When your the ones that have taught them to act this way, indirectly. When a newer player does well in a ?go base game, vets will just shut them down, saying ?go base means nothing. So it's the 2:1 spider scores and shit they go for, hoping to get a ride to twl. If you guys don't give two shits about ?go base, how the hell can you expect them to?

Also, it won't change in 2 days. I'm tired of vets reading a forum arguement, and going into ?go base for three games and then posting like..

Basing is what it is.
It is the Mods job to make "good caps".
It is the caps job to pick an appropriate team, not a team that has their friends, and squad , and such.

I think that it is wrong to say, "Just join a good twbd squad."
First off, as FIT said, there arent that many good ones.
Second, to GET on a good squad, you have to do well .?go base. To do well in go base in spid, you need lots of kills, and the best way to get kills is camp. So i WONDER WHY everyone is trying to camp? It is the players that have a good squad already, and are looking from a warm up game or something, that dont camp.

The fastest way for a new player to get on a good squad, is to .?go base. Spid a couple of games. Camp, get a good rec, including 100+ kills, and thats it.

I also think that there should be better twbd squads, but what i think doesnt effect anything. Squads have to be made, and players have to commit. It is a long process.

Proj is 100% correct. The wealth of players also means going back to hidden arenas won't help.

Of course hidden arenas don't work. We started up a game of #private basing a few days ago and it was hard getting 18 people. Then those 18 people (and also some unwanted staff) started bringing in their more "undesirable" friends until it was a replica of ?go base but in a private arena.

Stab, I wouldn't be surprised if there just weren't enuf quality ppl online to even have a private game goin. Or such an event might be just extremely rare.

I still think that we should start out with a map change and gameplay change. The map can be made more flexible and complex to allow more of a variety of options of attacking and defending. Such an idea is fairly straightforward and easy to setup too. Some ppl just hafta start creating maps and the ops can just upload. I also think that the gameplay might need to be adjusted. To me the strength/difference btwn basing and dueling is the fact that you can play different ships. So by allowing limited or infinite shipchanges; that just boosts the creativity/flexibility of the game, as well as holds up the ideal of diversity in ships.

To those ppl who are opposed to map changes (I mean major map changes not dinky tweaks) as well as are anti-cram ... my question would be ... doesn't a major map change (ex. allowing multiple entrances into FR) basically solve both the lag issue of the cram as well as STILL allow a team to decide whether they wanna play cram?

I didn't want to start another anti-cram thread. The cram itself doesn't contain the problem. What I ment was that people are getting less practice in the other aspects of a full game. In my opinion the error is being 'caused due the lack of balancing in ?go base games.

I think it's funny to see how established basers are trying to escape from the new people, while staff wishes to get those new players into the scene.
