I mean, what do you care if we let people who play DDs and TWL to use 1600 resolutions considering you view the game as not being about DDs anyway?

Most widescreen monitors that are any decent can do 4:3 as well as widescreen resolutions

epi is right. WBs especially are more fun w/ high res. it becomes more of a team game because you have higher visibility of your teammates and enemies, and it allows the team to cover for each other better and minimizes people bum rushing in tryin 2 get the vulch. not to mention it reduces strays gr8tly. We r almost to the new decade of 2000 at least cap it at 1680 or whatever, i have had at least 1600 res even on shitty monitors for the past 10 years, and before the res cap, like 9 years ago, i had 1920 res. we a decade later lets get w/ the program.

if anybody remembers when the res cap was nazi'd onto us they know that nearly everybody was against it except the sysops themselves. there was a super backlash, people were rioting in the streets, led behind fieryfire. cause its lame and really changes the game in a bad way. now we r just keeping this primitive archaic tradition set upon us in the spirit of the third reich w/o any great reasons. the majority of people have 1600 at least..

so, can we at least test a 1680 cap in TWD for a few weeks, even if only in one of the arenas? anything like that? maybe in WB duel?

kthx, have you ever played 5v5 WBs with a high res? i don't know of one person that used to play back in the day when there was no res cap who isn't all for higher res. your only argument against it is something about hearing bullets and counting down and making rushing easier. you can still rush at 1600, trust me, it just takes more timing and positioning and teamwork as well - i.e. it makes the game more team oriented and strategic, i.e. more fun.

you are making leaps about 5000 res and how it has worked for 6+ years so it must be the right thing. not so kthx just not so.

at the very least we could allow 1600 res in WBduel for a few weeks before TWL starts and let people who have never played 5v5 wb w/ it experience it for themselves. what we have now is a bunch of people who haven't experienced both sides and dun rly know what they are talking about. what is there to lose here?

because of this crappy ATI graphics card I can't even enable 1400x900 resolution so I'm forced to play with either..

Windowed (1280x1024) or Full Screen (1680x1050), but obviously I can't use the later one so I have been playing Windowed for years now. No biggie.

Poseidon has hit the nail pretty much on the head. I was on staff at the time, and Fieryfire was a smod at the time. Basically what happened was that DoCk> would complain to us almost daily about how crappy it was that people at high res could see so far. He'd go around watching people with high res who were good at the game and saying that's the only reason why they were good and so on, and then when he died to these people he'd whine a bit.

This continued for a month or so, and then all of a sudden... res cap. Even people who were only at 1024 res at the time didn't really care either way aside for a very few random people. Most of the competitive players (aka people who cared about the game) wanted the res cap removed.


I agree with Pose in that we should try to have a higher cap in one arena as a trial for a period of time so everyone can see how great it was.

I never cried about lifting res cap, nor ever made references to SSCX Chaos/League Zone regarding this issue. I also can do 1440x900 max, but I simply see the point of those who are up for a higher resolution (see above), because, unlike you, they can actually express their thoughts using English and basic reasoning. Fact is, there is too much randomness involved in the current twdd gameplay. I am surprised the current 'good' rushers cry about allowing higher resolution if they tend to cry all day about being 'strayed'.

In conclusion, money is stupid.
