Any chance of summing up the big picture vyk (or anyone else)? I know it's too early to call, but it seems like Bush is doing reasonably well. I don't understand all these figures.
The electoral score is Bush 211, Kerry 188. This is using the statistics of the Associated Press. Bush is winning the popular vote by about 2 million votes at the moment.
Florida will, barring random events, go for Bush- he has a five-percentage-point lead going into the last seven percent of polling. Florida was one of the most, if not the most, important swing state. Unless the next 7% also go for Bush, this probably isn't the last that we'll hear of Florida. Court litigation is likely.
Another swing state, Pennsylvania, has ended up solidly in the Kerry camp. Keep in mind that the 211-188 tally above includes Pennsylvania, but does not include Florida. With Florida the electoral vote is 238-188 in favour of Bush.
Ohio, the third part of the super-swing-state trifecta, is leaning Bush by a few points as well at this point in voting. This one's close. I don't know what's going to happen.
The midwestern swing states- Minnesota, Iowa, Wisconsin, and Michigan- are all too early to call. So far Kerry leads in MN and IA, and Bush leads in WI and MI.
New Mexico and Colorado are leaning Bush, but not by much.
Basically, at this point things are looking good for everyone's favourite incumbent president: he's ahead right now, and definitely looks to pick up Florida.
Jerome, no state has only 1 vote. Every state has electoral votes equal to its congressional representation; thus, a minimum of 3.
What you probably saw was the website which you're checking adding the free Maine elector to Bush's tally. I discussed the free Maine elector, which comes from the smaller of Maine's two major congressional districts, earlier in this thread.
