I've started a few threads in the past about race and religion that I would like to think are productive. I don't create threads like this to create a haven for the ignorant, I create them so people here can talk about them in a mature fashion and maybe even learn something- if my previous threads in the past had degenerated into idiots spamming hateful posts, I wouldn't have continued to create them.

I honestly don't think using the word homosexuality is offensive, but it's cool if you disagree. I never used any derogatory term when creating these topics in an attempt to keep them informative and my point wasn't to speculate about the "gay lifestyle". I merely wanted people's opinions because I've never really heard anyone talk about it before. Why do people hate gays? Is it because their religion told them to, or because they just dislike the idea of a man or woman having a relationship with someone of their own gender? I'm glad that alot of people have responded maturely like in my previous topics and hope that a few ignorant souls won't pollute the discussion.

i have no problem with conversations about controversial topics. i certainly have no problems with anything you post--you're generally pretty thoughtful and open minded about topics such as this. i just think that these conversations, with lots of people throwing their two cents in like this, can go downhill fast. Mostly it drives me crazy because people are always quick to offer their expert advice, and it is sad to see prejudices and ignorant ideals that people have that you have no way of addressing simply because of the huge quantitiy of posts and sub conversations being had.

also, inevitably people start talking about what THEY believe personally about homosexuals, not what the original question was (which was a good question in theory, if people actually discussed it). This is wrong to me on several levels. first of all, while some people claim to be open minded, from their posts its obvious that they are harboring some very narrow minded prejudices. And you can't blame each individual person for this, so you have to sit and read all these posts that end up feeding on each other..it just drives me nuts.

as far as the religion people..i can understand how a person would be unable to make exceptions in their faith--but honestly...I'm not a religious fanatic, but i blieve in some sort of higher being, at some level...and i cant imagine any higher consiousness like this being as close minded as his authors 2000 years ago. if god hates homosexuals that much, then why did he create homosexuality? i just dont understand the hypocrisy involved. the SPIRIT of christianity is to spread love and tolerance, but people point out fine text in the bible like its a contract.

and to top it all off, people discuss this particular topic so fervently even though the majority of them have little to no experience with homosexuals. The bottom line is, none of our opinions even matter. period. i mean, with large groups of ignorant mobs you can ban gay marriage and what not--but that doesnt change the fact that there are homosexuals in our society. Even if for some reason you don't approve, why cant you just let them be. its really none of your business--your expertise on the subject means jackshit. (i realize that in this forum there hasnt been anybody being blatantly obtuse or that extreme in the posts..i'm just ranting about generalities now).

on a final note. i'd like to acknowledge all the people who pop into the thread with comments like "i'm fine with gays so long as they dont try shoving their cock up my arse."
i hope these people realize that they are contributing nothing to the discussion.
i also hope they realize that if you're ugly as shit, even gays dont want to come near you. dont flatter yourself.

I dont know if this was posted or not already, there were way too many repeats in this thread for me to read them all, but I believe God put Adam and Eve on earth for a reason. Not Adam and Steve. We were created the way we are for the purpose of procreation. I do think you should have a choice to reproduce or not, but if are going to parent a child, then it needs to be by a man and a woman. Being gay goes against everything god intended of our bodies. Homo's take what was intended to be beautiful, and turns it...well....gross.

Thing is, I am a scientist, so I want prove for stuff. Now I know there is no direct proof to say it's not a choice. But when looked at all the evidence there is. It is far more logical to conclude it's not a choice whether you are gay or not. Looked at that there are gay people who don't want to be, who try to change them being gay. Someone doesn't choise to be gay so he can go on living life pretending he is not. Looked at the fact that none of us makes a choice whether we want to like girls or boys. We develop those feelings during our puberty. Looked at this from all points of view, taken into account all the things I know. I cannot but come to the conclusion it is not a choice whether you are gay or not.

And you can't possibly compare this with your taste in material things. Where you might start dressing preppy because it makes you fit in with a group. You won't start liking fat girls just because the group you want to fit in with does. And as I said, there is more too us then just genetics. Not everything we are, and do is made up in our genetics. There is more that decides who we are. Why are people violent? Why do they have a short temper? That is not in your genetics, yet no one knows where it does stem from.
