Bloomberg is reporting that despite the fact that taxpayers will be spending hundreds of billions of dollars bailing out the banking industry, banking insiders are still on track to receive tens of billions in bonuses. Even more incredible is the fact that these bonuses are coming at a time when shareholder pensions have been crushed, and many of the firms are laying off thousands of employees.

And that is despite the fact that Goldman’s profit has fallen 47 percent this year, and the share price is down 53 percent. Morgan Stanley’s earnings have tumbled 41 percent and its shares have shed 69 percent of their value.

Employees at bankrupt Lehman Brothers will still get bonuses. Employees already have received them at Bear Stearns, the investment bank the Federal Reserve had to lend JP Morgan Chase $29 billion to buy.
Goldman Sachs and Morgan Stanley are each receiving $10 billion from the government as part of the effort to help prop up the financial system.

Both parties supported the bailout. As for the Democrats controlling Congress they haven't gotten much done because they don't have a majority (currently 49 Senators) of seats or three-fifths (60) to end debates. In the House the Democrats hold 54% of the seats, and if the first failed bailout bill wasn't an indication of Pelosi's ability to keep people in line I don't know what would.

Edit: A couple of large banks failing (there's no guarantee they won't tomorrow) will have a massive effect on the economy and job markets but personal savings ect... of middle class Americans I think are protected against such a scenario (up to $250,000 per account). In either case the Government should have treated the bailout as if they were investing in these companies so they could see some profit out of this which I believe the Republicans defeated as well as many provisions which would have limited executive bonuses.

Corporate greed that pays politicians to go along with the corrupt bankers agenda.

Understand Fractional-reserve banking and you might see the big picture how this process is a no-win scenario towards the borrower, which in this case would be the Government borrowing from the Federal Reserve. This process increases debt exponentially with every loan and is a major train wreck just waiting to happen. Once the Government owes more in interest than it can pay, the country goes bankrupt. What makes it even worst is these bankers have no allegiance to any country. They're 'above' nationalist loyalties and the Federal Reserve (private bank) is untouchable by law. Yet, they have control of a nation's economy, simply by creating more money, or raising or lowering interest rates etc...

Bankers love war because both sides borrow from them at high interest rates. This war on terror is doing more damage to 'the good guys' and destroying the American economy which will inevitably destroy the country.... which will be that major crisis Rockefeller is looking for to take total control of a nation.

Instead of emoting against me, try doing a little research to understand what i'm talking about. Google "global financial crisis" "financial collapse" "bankrupt economy" "fractional reserve banking" "plutocracy" ...Etc.

Edit: While you're at it, google "FEMA coffins" and see what's in store for Americans once the shit hits the fan.
