Weasel:
Full size "fat" version. Multifire, same bullet speed, turn and movement speed as now. Starts with stealth, can green cloak, both on at once doesn't drain energy. No need to drop Multifire, going from small to full size is a downgrade, not an upgrade.
Lev:
Speed of a Spider, Level 1 double barrelled bullets, no multifire on the bullets. Level 1 Bombs, no bounce. Bomb energy costs 1/3 of total energy to fire. No other abilities (port rep etc) and no bounty req to attach. Essentially the lev becomes the heavy bomber because it with full energy could fire enough bombs to equal a shark's starting repels.
Not gigantic game busting bombs, but it'd be able to fire a bomb even after thrusting and such and so forth. Sounds like a heavy bomber to me.
And the Only Reward I want for a Shark:
Team Greens. The Shark is such a team focused ship, just like the terrier, and needs reps to live. I'm not talking about ?go base or league arenas where for some reason people find it fun to count off three reps and then just die. In pubs with gigantic teams, you can burn reps rather fast, and while not necessarily dead in the water, you're at a severe disadvantage when they're gone.
I uh.. third the ideas. all of them. the lev idea might need some little fine tweaks here and there, but ANYTHING is better than what we have to deal with now. levterrs are the single absolute most irritating thing about pubs. worse than the spawning gauntlet of warbirds, worse than teamkilling javs, and FAR worse than anything the weasel has ever been capable of doing. I can't count the number of times I was in a heavy basing game in pub today (at least 6v6), when two assholes on a private freq came and killed every last one of us with a single blue bomb. ONE. not even fired from inside the base. while we were fighting our asses off for control of the flag, he was merrily being greened by his terr (ie: not doing anything). we continued fighting, while his terr flew him up to the camping hole (lev.. still didn't do anything). then he hit the tab key, and our rather fun basing game came to a sudden halt.
In other words, they don't base, they annoy and harrass people trying to base.
What is wrong with that? It balances it out. Pubs aren't JUST about basing. In fact, I don't really like basing in pub very much anymore as the quality of the games are generally very bad. I do play in some good games but I like LTing most of all in pub. And no ?go base fuckers are going to take that away from me!
I fourth the idea(s). All of them. Sarien thinks straight.

Lting is fun, and so was the old, perma cloak weasels. And we all know what happened to them (for good reason). I don't like LTs, and neither does the majority of pubbers, and I'm not particularly a fan of ?go base, either.
It balances out
what exactly balances out? Not basing balances out annoying and harrassing people? Elaborate please.
Also, the NW testing weekend was great fun because it was a new idea. With all these new Ideas, like timed pub and changing levi and everything, why doesn't TW have a 'testing' weekend, say once a month, or once a reset, where they test new ideas and settings and gauge public reactions?

The quality of pub1 and 2 basing is great. Unlike in ?go base, you get to play, fast, and don't see spam or elitism.
I agree with Sarien except for the weasel tweak. Let it stay small AND let it always have cloak. This is basing (even if it's pub basing). You have no time to green things and you choose the best ship for the job, or at least one of the most effective ones. If you remove the cloak you can't get things done at all so the weasel won't be effective to be a serious ship. If you're playing capture the flag in team fortress you want all your weapons at the start.
Being small adds a tactical element. There's no need to remove that. It makes both the terr and the weasel more interesting to play.
If you want a nerf to the flag touching, then lessen or remove weasel's thrust.
If timed games are in pub either make weasle bigger, give more ships X-radar (give javs it back!!) or replace it with NW - i don't think many would use it after the novelty wore off.
Finaly try to replace the lev or give it a major haul over. Maybe make it a bit quicker, give it L2 bombs and make it so it can't attach?
If LT's don't like this make them there own sub arena where the old settings would be the same, off course i doubt many ppl would go there but that would show you that most don't like it and the changes were for the better. Or that LT's are just preying on newer players who don't really know about changing arenas, in which case its still good so they might see a better side of the game than an L3 bomb destroying them anytime they go near base.

Why do LTs need to adapt or leave? The thing about TW pubs is its facilitation of diversity - and I am a personal huge fan of LTing. It doesn't ruin basing, you rarely see LTs successfully taking a base. All they do is kill people in base which is part of the game. That's why you need a good terr. It's just another way a freq can either take the flagroom (instead of just having the option of cramming) or force the other team take some of their javs out of FR and make them wb hunt the LTs. LTING IS THE BEST THING PUBS HAVE TO OFFER!
How can you say LT's don't ruin basing???
LTing is the worst thing about pubs. i don't normaly play in any thing else than pure pub anymore becuase you can't base for LT's in any other pub, and now they hardly try.
All you get there is a private freq of 4-5 ppl who know each other dominateing the game by firing bombs into base and blowing up either or both of the 2 natural freqs which are trying to get base. Then they just warp etc... The fact that generaly in the non pure pub freqs they aren't co-ordinated to get a terr a lanc and a spider together to get antiwarp and go kill the LT and even if they do, its no time till the lev races to the safe, gets greened and is back and since they have comitted about 1/2 of the 7 ppl on there freq to getting the LT the rest stand no chace of getting base. Game ruined.
So the freq off 4 ppl has just ruined the fun off anyone trying to base, say 10-20 ppl and promotes more spawning wb's deuling becuase what is the point of going to base to be blow up?
jones how u can say so? if u look base and flagroom now there is much more players.
btw change bot name to TWPubBot because now newbies don't understand that RoboBoy is the bot.
Yeah i was in a game with about 20-25 ppl in flagroom trying to get flag, also alot more spiders as in these numbers they are more effective than other ships which is a good step in the right direction. It was a good game and actualy better than alot of the hosted base games i've been in.
However it could still be becuase the timed game is a novelty and ppl will go back to dueling in spawn or camping etc... in time. Hope that isn't hte case and most will keep going for the flag.

The problem is exactly the reverse of what you might think. I think in ?go base and in all structured 8vs8 play it'd be ludicrous to ban or hamstring the weasel, small size included. There are only 8 enemies to watch for, and any terrier that can't watch for X, isn't worth his salt, most especially when they know it's coming.
That said, the -amount- of people in pub I can understand necessitates a limit to the way people can get in the flagroom. You can have a frequency of up to 15 people on one team. That could easily be a terrier and up to 14 weasels, all trying to push in through every hole in the flagroom. Even 5 or 6 (which is done often enough) is too much for a team to realistically handle. This is a case where the scope of the public game has to be taken into account. So it needs to be full size, for the sake of the defenders. About greening: One of the problems that has shown up with the X, isn't that it can cloak/stealth kill. That's life and people should simply suck it up and deal. It's that it could manage to do it over and over so fast, attacking relentlessly, even when they died, until they get their kill. Believe me, I know, and have been doing just exactly that for quite some time. Greening cloak slows the speed of the cloaked attack runs down. It essentially makes it so that there is no reason to stealth/cloak energy drain, to keep the pilot managing abilities constantly, so they can't suicide rush so fast. If you work to green up cloak, you're not going to suicide over and over with it. Even if you do, you won't be able to do it as quickly.

the problem is that in a time race if one freq has 9:50 and the other has 7:50 but the 7:50 has the flag and has a solid cram up the other freq can just switch to an x which will disrupte the terr if not get flag and break the cram. It adds more fun (and the possibilty of a comeback) to not allow the x. Also if only the terr can see the x, but it must be safe and putting its freq's ppl in good positions. It can be difficult to kill a x without a portal and without killing yourself not to mention the fact that while your occupied with an x your placeing ppl all over the place and the other freq can get in.
This really is a good idea and all.. but jeez. I played it today with like 18 people... that means 5 terriers... 10 javs ... 2 sharks... and a few spiders.
Bursts everywhere, mines everywhere, javbombs everywhere. I HATE IT. it's a frigging minefield you have to pass and then your in upperbase... AND ITS FULL OF JAV BOMBS... BURSTS... AND WARBIRDBULLETS.
good idea tho'
should need a jav limit.. like 2 javs a team.
help: (how do i shot) (Public 0): how do i travel diagonally? i only have up, down, left and right keys.
4:PinkSTAR <ER>> ask DP he knows me inside and out
Which correct me if I'm wrong, sounds more exciting than you know, sitting in a cram could ever begin to compete with.
maybe i explained it wrong :P it isn't more exciting having no prospect of winning when you are 7:50 -9:50 with flag becuase an x will get in and get flag/disrupt terr. When there were x's in base alot of the games with 9:30 on the clock but that team had lost flag, were won like that. With teams being 5-9:55 down coming back to 8 or so then getting x-ed. The thing i like about time race games is that it offers the possibilty of a comeback, and i've seen games won by only a second or two 10-9:58 and they are alot more fun games than the 10-0:23 stacked team games that often happen. Also the cram in ?go base is usually alot more dynamic than those of the twd and alot of twl matches , becuase the sharks (usually) don't play often if at all together, they are generally weaker sharks and the cram gets broken often becuase of this and the fact there are more ships used specially the jav. lol i get sharked when there isn't many ppl in base , not cuase i'm any good -i suck at it- but becuase others refuse too OR ppl have seen me picked and think i'm a shark but i think its the first one.
but i am going of topic here as base isn't what we should be talking about and you agreed that in timed pub games xs were a problem (least i think you did) and that is what matters here ^^
When someone can explain me how it makes sense for "shrabby", a no-talent pubber, to be able to climb in a weasel (he was able to do this because the usual MatchBot was down and the wrong one was used as a replacement) and dominate multiple consecutive ?go base matches against experienced players, I'll reconsider the ship's legitimacy. Until then, I stand by the notion that if one no-talent weasel can disrupt a team of eight good ?go base players to the point of total breakdown, then there's no hope for pub as long as its gameplay remains in such a free-form state. All people have to do is Esc-6, and any challenge the game once presented for them is thrown out the window.
