I have one more thing to add to all of this. The replacement squad thing I have never really understood.

When a squad replaces in, they start off with 0-0. I don't really agree with this, because it makes it pointless for the replacements to come in and play. Say there are 3 games left, and they go 3-0, it won't matter at all. Now lets say the squad they replaced was like 2-4 for instance, and the new team inherited that record. They could go 5-4 and possibly make playoffs.

I just don't understand why wins/losses aren't added on top the replacement team. It could give them a meaningful season afterall, but only if they are a really good team. Obviously, if they went 0-3 they wouldn't be going to the playoffs, whereas if they went 3-0 they are probably a pretty decent squad, and might deserve the other 2 wins given to them.

Just my thoughts, because that's the only reason I can see why a replacement squad would ever even accept the invite.

we used to have 16 squads... and yes the bottem few were bad... but overall the others were not... maybe only the top 4 had a chance of winning the title, but stilll

now we went down to 10, and now 8

Well of course. We went from 550 ppl loggin on sundays just last year or two ago, down to maybe a peak of something like 350 to 400 at *most* loggin on now on a sunday.

Who the fuck cares if a squad goes 0-10 losing every game by a huge margin? What will it hurt letting them getting some experience under their belt?

If they drop out after getting stomped on a few times, who cares?

There are people who want to play TWL just to play TWL, not necessarily to win. If a squad that enters TWL is going to go 0-10, they probably know this beforehand. If a squad can't handle losing, let them drop out, what the fuck does it matter?

The rules last season worked pretty well at keeping squads from dropping out. Up the squad cap to get more squads playing twd competitively, and raise general interest in twd/twl.

Higher squad cap may also encourage smaller squads, instead of everyone stacking onto their favorite squad every season and benching for the win.

That's because the roster cap is at 35 instead of being like 28 max (only if the squad is a triple league one). Pure-basing squad should have no more than 20 people for twl.

anyway, here's the root of the problem (thunder, don't take this as me singling you out, you're just the best example i can think of to use at the moment). thunder is back and already packing a 40-man roster. i understand they're a three-league squad and all, so they need a bigger roster, but the fact is they could field two competitive lines in each league using their backups, maybe even three in twld and twlj, but these backups are instead content to sit on the bench week after week and, for all intents and purposes, contribute nothing to the league. it's not a lack of talented players, it's their lack of interest in starting their own squads to help the league out. now, i'm assuming these backups stay on thunder because they like it. they like the people, they like the atmosphere, whatever it is. that's fine. i can't take that away from them. forcing them onto another squad for twl is not going to work because they won't be happy about having to leave a squad that they like, and they'll take their frustration out on the league by tanking games and pulling all sorts of other stunts. face it, you know it would happen because this game is full of immature and vengeful little children.

about all i can see that could be done at the moment would be to lower the twl roster cap, especially for squads that are not competing in all three leagues. i understand the need to have backups ready and all that, but when you have 13 people showing up to sit on the bench for your twld match, and at least 7 or 8 of them are competent warbirds, you're probably unnecessarily stockpiling players. i would fully support a cap reduction, but even if it passed through the necessary channels without a hitch, i doubt the twl site could be suitably altered to support it before the season starts. i'll run it by a few people and we'll see where it goes from there.

the key word in all this is competitive, and if you're not being competitive you need to go back to twd and GET competitive. twl is not for people who "just want to play", and it's not designed to "give everyone a chance". it's for the best squads in the zone. period. we could theoretically have more squads that fit that bill, but unfortunately we don't.
