This is one of the saddest discussions ever, the more because people give their 'expert' opinion while they know absolute nothing about this subject -mostly because they are too scared to touch the subject-
If you judge these people while being a Christian, go fuck yourself, religion is a joke. Religion is only there to give a meaning to life. Come on, do you really think there is some spirit floating about, somewhere called heaven? Seems to me you had a little too much spirits.
Because if you are a Christian you probably believe the stance on the Church that condoms are evil and they don't stop AIDS.. ow wait, they flip-flopped.. condoms might be used now in some cases? How can the obsolete truth change??

lol, I feel quite the target in this thread. To clarify; I've nothing wrong with homosexuals and try to love them as much as I try to love anyone else. I even know a couple of homosexual christians (and non-christians).

I remember hearing somewhere once that sexuality isn't black and white, that we all fall along a scale, never being 100% straight or 100% homosexual. What do you think of that opinion?

Of course there is, and I didn't mean they are gay because they doesn't have kids. I meant that they need to find another way to benefit community then (like gays). And thats totally fine.

And galle, I'm not saying that if you don't have kids you are criminal or anything. Everyone of us has some kind of skill what he/she can use to benefit community.

But now when we have overpopulated earth, all my points are void. I just tried to say that if we didn't have much people in planet, gays (and straight/sick people who doesn't want to/can't have kids) should have others ways to benefit community.

I am not saying it is or isn't genetic. There is more then just genetics that makes us. Chemics in your brains, for one. I am saying that I don't think that it is a choice. And them dating girls first is not that weird.

Firstly, you only start discovering your sexuality during your puberty, so if early in your puberty you date a few girls, it's not that weird if you turn out to be gay. You get all these new feelings and you don't quite know what to do with yourself and those feelings. Everyone around you starts dating girls so why can't you? After a while you figure things out.

Secondly, gays are not yet accepted in society, as this thread also clearly points out. There for, if you suspect you're being gay when you hit puberty, you might want to suppress it. No one likes gays, no one will like you. Etc. So you start denying, it, start dating girls, prove you are not gay. It's not like it is that easy to be gay and finding out you are gay.

And to all the people who say it's a choice, when you ever make the choice that you like woman, and what kind of woman you like. When was the moment when you first thought to yourself. Hey, there are boys and there are girls.. hmm, you know what, I am just going to like girls from now on.

I never made that choice, I just like girls, my first crush was with a girl. The first time I fell in love was with a girl. I only get aroused by girls, I never made that choice. I only like white girls for instance, there has never once been a girl of other ethnic heritage that I liked in that way. Yet I wasn't raised as a racist, I never hung with racists, I am not racist. My mind/body just tells me I don't like them in that way.

You can also see it from this point of view. You getting aroused by something has to do with your brain, and a certain chemic in your brain. There are triggers that start this whole process, you don't chose those triggers. You have those triggers. You never made the choice that when you see naked woman you get aroused, when you see naked woman, a trigger is pulled and the chemic starts it's work.

And to address the thread, people hate gays because people hate things which are not like themselves. Since modern western society tells us to be nice to so many groups, hating gays is one of the very last 'socially acceptable' ways to hate. And people like to hate.

That's basically exactly what I was going to say.

I respect gays, certainly, and have quite a few gay/lesbian people in my life that are very important to me. Still though, I have a couple prejudices built up that I haven't been able to solve.

Whenever I hear a girl say she's bisexual, I roll my eyes and think "shut up, you're straight." Whenever I hear a guy say he's bisexual, I roll my eyes and think "shut up, you're gay." In my experience, at least, that's always the way it turns out. Girls say they're bisexual to get attention, and guys say they're bisexual to test the waters to see how people will react to the fact that they want to have sex with men. I think bisexuality probably does exist in a tiny minority of people, but I don't think it's anywhere near as common as teenagers/college students claim. Still, it shouldn't be up to me to judge someone's sexuality, if they say they're bisexual, I should believe it (unless it's one of those super attention whore slutty girls, when nobody believes it).

Another problem I have with gay people is that gay guys that are pretending to be straight still drive me up the wall for some reason. You know that really effeminate guy that everyone knows is gay but is too Christian to realize it himself or admit it, for some reason I can't stand that. I don't mind gay guys when they are with other guys but watching gay guys try to hit on girls and shit for some reason bugs me. It shouldn't bother me, because I wouldn't trade places with those guys for a second, it's gotta be a terrible place to be, to have some inkling that you're gay but feel like you're going to go to hell if you are.

I guess both of the above issues just stem from my problems with fake people. However, in many of those cases, the people don't even realize they're being fake.

Also, I actually used to think I was somewhat homophobic because I couldn't stand really effeminate gay guys. But then I realized I can't stand really effeminate girls either. I just don't like giggling and squeaking. Oh, well.

There's a difference between 'taste' and 'sexuality', there are gay animals, and no one ever told them what's acceptable and what's not. And even if you would tell them, they don't have the brain to understand you.

This is a good question, and i don't see many people actually addressing it.
My answer comes from a lot of discussion over the last couple years with my church and others (my church recently split because a couple years ago, the anglican church of canada decided to "Affirm the integrity and sanctity of committed adult same sex relationships." Some people had issues with the word sanctity.)

anyway, my answer to your question LB is yes. Both reasons play a part in people's minds. some people focus on one and some focus on the other.

An interesting generalization i've come up with though: I find if a person is extremely outspoken against homosexuality (compared to their normal way of arguing) i'd say they are focussed on the physical act of gay sex, and their personal disgust of that.
the other extreme is a person who's only objection comes from the bible. this person tends to be quieter about this subject than they are about some other subjects. this type of person, i also find, is ready to love a homosexual person, and treat him/her like anybody else.

as to the question of whether homosexuality is genetic or conditioned, that hasn't been proven one way or another,(i dont believe it ever will, since that's psychology) and either way there's a good way to take it or a bad way.

So tell me when exactly did you make the choice to like woman? When exactly did you say to yourself: Ok, from now on I will only like woman. I have asked this multiple times now, but no one who thinks that being gay is a choice has answered it. Because you would have to say you never made the choice.

And if being gay is a choice, what about the gay people that fight them being gay? What about the gay people who marry, get kids.. and years after it still comes out that they are gay? They obviously made the choice to act as if they aren't gay, the obviously struggle with being gay and don't want to be gay. Yet it all comes out that they are indeed gay.

that said, ive never once stated that anyone should or would have an eureka moment, where they realize that hey, im gonna be a heterosexual.

i dont believe it works that way, but i do believe that every person here, deciphers the info that they are given growing up their own way, but that "choice" is still made subconsciously...
