J, I think the answer lies more that most of the guys you used to know (older Cripples, Zero-Hour, etc) have just stopped playing and instead lots of new ones come in, making you the veteran. Not trying to blow up anyone's ego here, but when you're the few players that started prior to the past couple years, it would seem pretty lonely. The trick is finding the right people to talk with. Some new comers I get along very well with like Shade <ER>, Darkchristy, Deprecate, etc. They haven't played for too long but they're still cool people to boot.5:royst> i was junior athlete of the year in my school! then i got a girlfriend

The trick is to ignore.txt away everything that moves. That way when someone talks to you, you either wont hear them or it will be someone new who you havent talked to before. In this way, the playerbase will always be interesting.RaCka> imagine standing out as a retard on subspace

Shrug, I suppose I should contribute, too. As you probably know, there are two ways to stand out in TW - either have an extravagant personality or superior piloting skills. Since there are so many new guys around (at least that's the way it feels to me) you're really going to have trouble standing out, as someone pointed earlier.
Let's take for example Jerome and DarkChristy. Both are quite new into the game. DarkChristy is certainly one of the best spids in TW atm and a nice person to boot. Jerome, otoh comes up with so much weird shit that you can't help noticing him and being amused. My point is, however, had they not been in A-S and won TWLB last season (even though Jerome didn't play a single minute :P), they wouldn't be too known either, methinks. It's just something this world has generally turned into - more faceless and distant - that's the way I feel.
Other than that, after couple thousand games under your belt you can't really bring yourself to give a damn about someone "ez":ing you. Trash talking and newbies have always been around in ample quantities and all of us have been newbies at some point, too.
(uh damn...got a train to catch...edits coming later :P)Veni Vidi Visa - I came, I saw, I did some shopping.
Also did some game development. Check out this horror adventure game if you like point'n'clicks.

Basicaly some people are assholes.
Some cause they're immature, some because they are just assholes.
If i was a mod and someone was whining like that to host UFC i would just tell him that i was hosting something else and that he can't expect the mods to pander to everyones requests otherwise hosting would become a shambles. Then i would leave it at that, if you start argueing with them you are just giving them what they want, which is give them what they want or they'll cause you grief.
Unfortunetly the more ppl that play the more assholes you will get and they will spam the pub chats and basical take it over so the only blue chat will be abuse and whining.
However its not fair to tar all the newer players with the same brush, i have been in a squad which was entirely for new people to get into basing. And although it has been pointed out that i myself am "new" which means i can't be as subjective as some, i met a lot of nice people with great personalities.
I can see why people miss the friends they made in the past but the older people will always fade out, its not going to go back to the way it was 3 years ago because the ppl that have left since then won't magically come back.In my world,
I am King

If you guys really want a competitive arena for better players using the elimination arenas, perhaps you should consider allowing people who are ranked 100 and better to be allowed to play. I was thinking 50 at first, but some of those ppl just rank up to those spots and don't play the names ever. So 100 sounds good. Don't give me that BS saying that baseelim and elim take no skill. If it indeed takes no skill, then get a higher rating than the other person and knock them off the ladder.
I like this idea of ranking based entrance. I pat myself on the back.♪♫♪♫♪♫♪♫♪♫♪♫
